Visiting Sandy Hook

Gateway National Recreation Area,  Fort Hancock, NJ  Sandy Hook Lighthouse is open on weekends
 from 12 to 5 with the last tour going  up at 4:30. The Keeper's House is also open 12 to 5.
 Tour hours change to 12 to 4 at the end of daylight savings time. The gift shop is open also.
 On weekdays the National Park Service conducts tours between 1 P.M. and 5 P.M. (from April to October)
with the house being open between tours.

Directions

  From the North:
         Take exit 117 of the Garden State Parkway and follow signs for Rt. 36 South, Gateway
         National
  Recreation  Area. Go about 12 miles, crossing over the Navesink River, making
         a right hand jug
  handle into Sandy Hook. Follow this for about 4 miles, past the beach
         areas and into Fort Hancock Historical area. Bear right on Magruder Road and continue
         onto the light house.


 From the south:
          Take exit 105 of the Garden State Parkway and take RT. 36 North. Go about  6 miles till
          you
  come to the end. You will be in East Long Branch. Make a left onto Ocean Blvd. Go
          about 5 1/2
  miles to the entrance to Gateway National Recreation Area. Bear right into
          the park.
Follow this
  for about 4 miles, past the beach areas and into Fort Hancock
          Historical area. Bear right on  Magruder Road and continue onto the light house.
