An act concerning the specifications of the
Superintendents
and other persons employed in the Lighthouse Service.
- Whereas the Legislature of the United
States by an act of the 5th day of February,1796 have
increased the fund for maintaining & repairing the Lighthouses,
Beacons, Buoys, public piers ____ and sundry applications have been
made by persons employed in the superintendence & keeping of the
same for an addition to their respective compensations, it is hereby
established and declared that from the commencement of the current year
the following allowances shall be paid to the several descriptions of
persons aforesaid.
- To each of the superintendents of the
Lighthouses in the United States (except those on Sandy hook & Cape
Henlopen) there shall be allowed a ____of five ____ on all sums of
money by them disbursed for the Lighthouses and other … aforesaid under
their superintendent once respectively.
- To each of the said Superintendents
there Shale also be allowed ____ two and one half _____On the monies by them disbursed
for Lighthouses & other Establishments as aforesaid not under their
immediate superintendence.
- To the Superintendent of the Light
houses of other establishments, as aforesaid on Sandy hook of other
places connected with the navigation of the State of New York, there
shale continue to be allowed the sum of four hundred dollars per annum.
- To the Superintendent of the
Lighthouse on Cape Henlopen
& the other Establishments connected with the navigation of the
River and bay of Delaware
there shale continue to be allowed the sum
of five hundred Dollars per annum.
- To each of the Keepers of the
Lighthouses and Beacons, there shale be allowed the sum herein set
against his station & designation together with the … occupancy of
employment of the buildings and Land belonging to the United States and
appears tenant to the establishment under his care, that is to say.
