Annual New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge®
October 18th and 19th, 2008 Featuring 11 Lighthouses and 2 Lenses! As if the Challenge wasn’t challenging enough, we thought we’d raise the bar with the addition of two new sites: 1 The Barnegat Light Historical Museum which has on display Barnaget Light's original 1st Order Fresnel lens and 2 The Cape May County Historical Museim which has on display Cape May's 1st Order Fresnel lens Needless to say, we will need volunteers! Not only to assist in the planning stages and staff the two new sites but also for the other sites, especially those that have Night Climbs (the same lighthouses as last year.) Volunteer Sign-Up Volunteer sign-up will begin at the March meeting. As in previous years, participants will be required to sign-up even if you have volunteered in the past. Please note that you must be a member of NJLHS or local lighthouse society to volunteer. Visit Doreen and/or Laura at the Challenge table to sign-up! If you cannot make it to the meeting and would like to sign up, please visit the Challenge page of the website and fill out the Volunteer Sign-up Form posted there. You can either e-mail it or send it via USPS to Laura. Other Challenge Updates The success of the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge® has sparked interest in other lighthouse groups around the country and resulted in the organization of other Lighthouse Challenges. As you know, the Maryland and Long Island Lighthouse Challenges have become annual events. Here is a list of the lighthouse challenges that are being held in 2008: 1 4th Annual Long Island Lighthouse Challenge – May 17th and 18th 2 Martha’s Vineyard Lighthouse Challenge – June 6th, 7th, and 8th Note: dates are TENTATIVE! 3 2nd Annual Mid-Coast Maine Lighthouse Challenge – June 7th and 8th 4 “Lights Across the Border” Lighthouse Challenge (Maine and Canada) – August 9th 5 6th Annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge – September 20th and 21st 6 9th Annual New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge – October 18th and 19th For further information on these Lighthouse Challenges, check the Challenge page of the NJLHS web site – we will soon be adding links to the web sites of these lighthouse organizations so you can get additional information. |
